Captain Owen R. Allred

Le Captain Owen R. Allred commanda le 88ème FS de fin Juin à début Août 1944. Il disparut en 1947 dans le crash d'un AT-6 près de Long Island...

Captain Owen R. Allred was the 88th FS leader from June to August 1944. He was sadly lost in 1947, when an AT-6 crashed into the Long Island sound... You can help find Major Allred THERE: sign the petition, please.

One of his P-40Ns was named "Oh! Red 5th", and was a subject of a painting by Roy Grinnell.

L'un de ses P-40N était nommé "Oh! Red 5th", et une peinture de Roy Grinnell l'a représenté sur la couv du "Fana de l'Aviation"#529.

Walt Shiel wrote "Rough War", a book about one of the "Banshees" pilots, and provided some pictures, too. Thanks, Walt !

Another pic from the "Allred collection". P-40N-5s from the 88thFS at Myitkyina. Too bad, #13 has no "skull markings" painted on...

Robert "Bob" GALE, 88thFS

Bob Gale was one of the few 80thFG veterans left, until his death, Feb. 12, 2016. He flew with the 88thFS. See his story here. On this pic, he was flying Charles F. HEIL's P-40N #10 over the Naga Hills. Just visible is the "extended mid-finger" design seen on some 88thFS P-40s. More on that later...

Bob Gale's P-40N was named "Dikam Death", after a distillery in Assam ! ^^

Le nom de l'avion provient d'un infâme tord-boyaux distillé en Assam !

Tail # was probably 15...to be confirmed. Il est probable que ce P-40 portait le #15.

Ces images auraient été prises à Shingbwiyang. An old picture, seen in the Aircam books (back in the 60s/70s), shows #15 taxiing in the forest. That may well be Bob Gale's P-40N !

Cette photo vue dans les vieux "Aircam" est ici reproduite en meilleure qualité. Il semblerait bien que le P-40N #15 porte le nom "DIKAM DEATH" sur le côté du capot. À confirmer...
